Location Information
Verandahs is located in a superior position, on the corner of Ponsonby Road and Hopetoun Street, one street back from Karangahape Road (known as K'Rd to locals) and only a 15 minutes’ walk to the Aotea Square the centre of the city.
Picturesque Ponsonby
We are on the corner of Auckland's favourite and most vibrant road – Ponsonby Road. Some of Auckland's best cafes and restaurants are only a short walk from our front door.
Additionally, Ponsonby has many small streets lined with historic Victorian wooden villas and provides a great walk to discover (old) Auckland. Alternatively, if old houses are not your scene, check out the boutique clothing, art galleries and curio shops or just take in the street life.
Vibrant Karangahape Road
Nearby K'Rd (a two-minute walk from our front door) has a chequered past. It's often thought of as the poor cousin of Ponsonby Road, but asks any K'Rd local and they will tell you that K'Rd is the street with real soul. Up to the '80s it was the main red light area of Auckland. Today most of these establishments have moved to other parts of the city and the street is undergoing a renaissance.
Historic Western Park
Western Park, which is in fact an extension of our own large garden, is best enjoyed from one of our verandahs. The park was one of Auckland's first civic beautification projects commencing in 1873.
