Obeid replied really quickly to our e-mail and we telephoned him with a sudden change of our plans and he was very accommodating. He sent us a picture of his son and the car he would pick us up in and he was very friendly and fun to be around. The camp is beautiful and very atmospheric. Obeid's sons are excellent hosts and we had a superb time. I recommended this camp to other travelers we met in Jordan and rate it very highly.

After searching far and wide for a desert camp, I chose Obeid's camp for my 2 nights in Wadi Rum. The reviews on his camp sure did help us out because it definitely was an incredible experience that now feels sort of surreal in my memory. I grew up in the country so camping wasn't something new to me - but this isn't like camping, this a complete other experience. Obied's son, Nayel, picked us up from the visitor center and brought us to the camp. Originally, we weren't going to do a jeep trip, but after some convincing, we realized it would be a good idea. We are so happy we did! Nayel took us for three hours to some of the sites as well as some of his personal favorite sites. He was the same age as me and my friend (mid-twenties) so it wasn't like a guide, it was more like a friend taking us around. He took us to a few tourist stops with other bedouins who were very friendly and offered us tea. We really felt like we had the best tour guide as well when looking at other jeep trips because most of them were just dropping off their groups at the sites and sitting on the side but Nayel told us everything we wanted to know and answered all questions. He even led me to the top of the rock bridge! After the jeep trip we went on a sunset camel ride which was very lovely. Camels are slow, fun fact. In the evening, Obied's brother and his family joined us for a lovely dinner in the living room type of tent where we had some really chicken and rice. The family really knows how to cook - there was so much flavor in everything. After that, we sat outside around the fire, had a ton of delicious tea (what is the secret ingredient for that Obied!?) and listened to Obeid's other son sing some traditional songs and play a drum while his brother's kids danced for us. I really felt like I had been adopted by another family for the 2 1/2 days we spent with this family. It was so comfortable. The desert at night was beautiful. The camp was well lit at night as well. We had a mattress in our tents and a little light. It was perfectly sufficient and comfortable for our two nights. The breakfast the next morning was absolutely delicious! Hummus, labneh, some kind of fig/honey mixture, pita, etc. Then Obeid drove us to Petra and waited while we were inside. He took us back to the camp afterwards and we relaxed in the shade, talked, read, enjoyed the sunset and had another delicious dinner - kabsah which is quite famous in Jordan and Saudi - looooved it. We both wished we had endless stomachs haha. After, we sat and talked, played a traditional bedouin game and drank lots more tea. After another amazing breakfast, Obeid took us to Aqaba and helped us out so much. He called hotels for us and tried to help us find something in our price range and he hooked us up with a trustworthy taxi driver for our trip to the airport at 3 am who turned out to be amazing when we had an early morning crisis with our credit cards at our resort. Anyways, now that I've said my trip in detail, let me give you my opinion. It was an incredible experience. I've never been in a place that is so serene and quiet in my life. The stars and moon were so bright and the lighting at night made it feel like a fairy tale. It was a quiet time for the camp as we were the only two guests but we were treated like part of the family and we've both never experienced such amazing hospitality in my life. I recommend Obied's camp over and over again. In the beginning, my friend recommended Captain's Camp to me (as Lonely Planet does too) but after realizing how touristy it was and its proximity to other camps, it wasn't the best, most authentic choice. If you want to experience bedouin life or even just being around Jordanian's, go to the camp and experience it for yourself. There is a reason this has a high rating on tripadvisor and hostelbookers. ;)

Wadi Rum and the camp was an amazing experience. It was like clamping not camping! We arrived in the morning after only booking accommodation. Jointed a day trip that day and stayed over. Very well organised.

Location is fantastic. Staff is very friendly. Owner Attallah tries to make your stay easy and enjoyable. We liked the dinner with music and dance. We felt welcome and it was nice to see some of the traditions (of course it is adapted to tourists, because you are part of it, but still very nicely done!). We didn't do any tours, we made a very nice walk and had a great time!

The location is amazing, tucked away from other camps, spectacular view. There were no other guests when I got there so Salman took me around with him to visit his friends, smoke shisha, drink lots of milk tea and then see the sunset. I felt a little uncomfortable being a woman on my own but I suppose that's normal. They're lovely guys, you can trust them. At night there were some other guests, we all had dinner together and chatted around the fire, wonderful. I recommend it.
