About Malakot
The project began as an experiment in living simply: life uncluttered by most of the things people fill their lives with, leaving space for what really matters.
Accommodation Information
The camp's area is 5 ha, there i a goat-farm. Essentially,we want to spread simple, locally manufactured, adaptable technologies while facilitating contact between tourists and locals. Crucial to this is an emphasis on the re-use and recycling of materials in order to create low-tech solutions for off-grid living, all based on and combined with the local Bedouin lifestyle. All building structures are designed to blend with and complement the natural environment, using natural and recycled materials. The place has a kitchen where visitors can cook if needed, make tea or coffee. There are toilets and showers, tents, a natural open cave for watching stars and a cave-house which can maintain comfortable temperatures all year round. It's quite an isolated place - trip should be planned accordingly and we recommend to think about everything might needed before. We suggest that guests bring their own sleeping bags but we can provide mattresses, blankets and pillows.
Location Information
We sleep in tents or in a natural open cave, watching the stars, cooking traditional Bedouin dishes, and baking bread on the open fire. Enjoy a day of being wild climbing isolated mountain at the North of Wadi Rum. There is a chance to meet a fox, a falcon, an owl and other wild nature used to live in this area. I'll show how to find herbs for tea and make Bedouin bread with nothing. Free sunsets, shooting stars and sunrise-coffee. You will see steep dunes, wide arches, stone mushrooms, the Al Khaz`ali Canyon with its inscriptions and petroglyphs, caves, the ruins of Nabataean Temple and the Turkish Hejaz Railway. You will meet camels and their shepherds, share some welcome drinks and hear stories from our friends on the way. Every trip is unique, with routes depending on weather conditions and seasons - our rain whisperer is doing his best! We provide a variety of tours that will let you experience our authentic bedouin life. Accommodation is free for volunteers and included in all tour's packages.
