Alcatraz Backpacker Hostel is a warm and friendly hostel, welcoming travellers from all over the world.

Whether you may want to rent a bike, book a walking-tour, check your messages online, go out for a party or simply cook with us and have a relaxed evening at the hostel: this is just a sample of what’s possible here at Alcatraz.

Over the years of our existence, we have constantly worked on our performance in order to fulfill the needs of people travelling. This includes our offer of a variety of items that can be lend for a small deposit, i.e. hair dryers, adapters, umbrellas, alarm clocks and board- or card-games. We also offer a bike-rental.

A small but healthy breakfast buffet is available for only 3,80€ and includes coffee and tea, milk and orange juice, toast and full-grain bread, cereal and fresh fruit, cheese, a variety of different jams, honey and chocolate spread.

Age restriction for dormitories: please acknowledge that we have an age-restriction in our dormitories (4-bed, 6-bed and 8-bed dormitories). If you are 40 years or older, you may not stay in the dorms, but are more than welcome to book one of our private rooms! Should you nevertheless book our dorms, we will change your booking to a private room (based on availability) at your arrival. Please note that the price for private rooms are usually higher than the price of dormitory-beds.

City maps are available for free at reception, just ask our staff about interesting spots in Berlin they would like to share with you!

Accommodation Information

What kind of accommodation does Alcatraz Backpacker Hostel offer?

Our variety of dormitories include 4-bed, 6-bed, and 8-bed dorms. Here, you share the room with other guests of ours. This type of accommodation is cheap and offers the opportunity to meet other travelers quick and easy. All guest in our dorms can lock their valuables in their own locker, of course provided for free.
Our 6-bed-dorm has got its own bathroom, the 4- and 8-bed-dorm share one bathroom.

Furthermore we offer private rooms. These include singles, doubles / twins and triple rooms. In this case, you book the complete room for yourself. This type of accommodation is still quite inexpensive and offers all advantages of a private room. Here, you also have the opportunity to meet other travelers in our common rooms, lobby or guest-kitchen but can withdraw into your private area anytime you like.
All private rooms share the bath with one other private room.

In total, Alcatraz Backpacker Hostel can host up to 60 people.

Our Reception is open from 7am until 1am. You can check-in to your room from 3pm until 1am. Check-out is until 11am. For payment, we accept cash or your Visa- or Mastercard. Please note that there is a small fee for payments with credit cards.

Please keep in mind that we are located in a nice, old building and therefore have no elevator!

Location Information

Alcatraz Backpacker Hostel is located very centrally in the district of Prenzlauer Berg in Berlin. The next metro-station is only one minute away.

As we have a very convenient and fast public transportation, all important sights of Berlin can be reached in only 15 minutes. Alexanderplatz is only 3 stops away and Brandenburg Gate, Museum Island or the Reichstag not much further.

Within walking distance you may find the great flea-market of Mauerpark (on Sundays), the relaxing Pratergarten (a beer-garden in the shade of chestnut-trees) and the wall-documentary center (telling about the division of Berlin).

Why not have a cappuccino or two in one of the street- cafés, offering a tempting variety of specialties? Try out “Anna Blume”, a café with a splendid amount of mouth-watering cakes on Kollwitzstraße.

A confusingly high amount of bars, restaurants and the like is on our doorstep. Sushi-Bars, great pizza places (you have got to try “a magica” in Greiffenhagener Straße, ask us for directions) or savoury German soulfood at “Zum Schusterjungen” just around the corner: loads of opportunities are waiting for you to enjoy a night out!

Especially the area around Kollwitz- or Helmholtz-Platz (about 10 minutes walking) offers numerous shops and galleries you will likely not find elsewhere. Young Berlin designers, artists and other creative minds offer their creations, differing in a great way from the standard fare you will find everywhere.

Cancellation Policy

Customers can cancel their reservation free of charge up to 2 days before arrival. After this date, charges will be applied by the property up to the first nights cost of the reservation, unless otherwise stated in the property’s conditions. Deposits paid are non refundable.
