Liked: The location was excellent, in downtown Cairo, its close to everything. There was always something to do. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Any questions or concerns I had, the staff were more than happy to help. I stayed at two other hostels in Cairo, the staff at the Australian were by far the most helpful. The Hostel was clean! The Australian was the cleanest Hostel I have ever stayed at. Excellent price! The most pleasant hostel I have stayed during my travels. Highly recommend!

Disliked: There was nothing to dislike.

Liked: Mido, the owner of the hostel is super helpful and nice. He was very willing to help us out and tell us a lot about what we could do in Egypt. The hostel itself is nice. AC rooms, community kitchen and fridge, etc.

Disliked: doors slam really loud in the common area

Liked: Centrally located and very clean. Some of the staff were really friendly and helpful- Especially Heppa.

Disliked: The annexed is notnot a good place to stay. Very noisy and the communal bathrooms did not lock. There was no real security in the annexe the communal area was full of people sleeping and could not be used. It is better to buy onward travel tickets direct from the train station or the bus company. The commission charged by the hostel is outrageous- although this is standard practice by all hostels. I was asked to pay225 pounds for a train ticket to Aswan that cost 109 pounds!!

Liked: Everything was spotlessly clean, water was hot, wifi was fast, and the front desk workers were polite and helpful.

Disliked: No way to secure personal belongings, but that's pretty normal for Cairo hostels.

Liked: I very highly recommend the Australian Hostel. Super value in the heart of downtown Cairo. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. I has never once pressured to book tours or buy anything. Every time I left in the morning they always made sure I had the address written in Arabic and seemed genuinely concerned for my safety and enjoyment. There is a very relaxed atmosphere in the hostel. This is definitely the place to stay to meet other travelers and escape the constant nagging from touts. ALSO: As a woman staying there alone, I HIGHLY recommend this place. I also recommend the safety of the city and country.

Liked: Very central location - convenient to everywhere.Friendly staff.Good rates. The US$29 Nile dinner cruise & belly dance show is value for money (food is cafeteria quality though)

Disliked: Probably not a hostel-specific issue but there're SO MANY mosquitos. The owner should install door/window mesh in every room! The free "tour" of Giza is just return transport - if you want a guide, you pay for it. One can easily catch Metro + microbus or taxi to the Pyramids.Make sure your airport pickup/drop off is arranged DAYS IN ADVANCE and confirm whether it's FREE. Everynight the manager/staff's friends come around to chat, play dominos, party, etc. Because of the political instability, the guests are vastly outnumbered by the locals
