Liked: Nice location opposite the beach. It shares a shack bar with next-door Chill Hostel right on the actual beach, where the ample breakfast is also served. Would be a better place to stay in good weather.
Disliked: The wi-fi is really poor, rarely stretching to the dorm and often not working at all: the staff didn't make much effort to try to sort it out. The twelve-bed dorm is outside and around the corner: even though it has enough space, the only lockers are in a dark corridor upstairs inside the main building, which was extremely inconvenient and I had to resort to just locking my bag to the bed and hoping for the best. Although it felt like a fairly safe place to me, it would be extremely easy for someone to walk in off the street and into that dorm as its door is unlocked and faces the pavement and beach. The only common areas are outside, which was inconvenient during the almost continual rain of my stay, and neither the front porch nor even the bar were very social. The 'kitchen' (a tiny corner of the porch) is extremely underequipped; worse, it closes at eleven even though it is outside, not near any dorm and far quieter than the bar which is open till two. There is no recycling and no washing machines. Most of the staff's English is not very good, and some extremely limited. (Bizarrely, the only receptionist with good English was on at night.) By far the worst thing was that, as I had arrived late at night and not used the complimentary taxi ride from the bus station, I asked if I could have a free taxi back there instead. (It is only about fifteen minutes' walk but the traditional cobbled streets do make it difficult with a heavy bag.) The receptionist agreed and booked it for me. I even asked if I needed to take a piece of paper to give to the driver, and she said no. When we got to the bus station, the driver then asked me to pay! The receptionist had obviously just understood the key word 'taxi' and just ignored the rest; she should have told me if she didn't understand some of what I said, as my so-so Spanish (which I think she spoke more of) could nevertheless have expressed my request unambiguously. She also should have clocked on when I was asking about giving the driver a piece of paper. I was really angry about it, but had no choice but to just pay (for a journey that took a much longer route than the walking one).

Liked: Breakfast on the beach is wicked, nice selection of foods also. Kitchen facilities are okay, could maybe do with a few more utensils, secure lockers and okay wi-fi. Decent location although town is small. Hosts are extremely friendly and helpful!
Disliked: 1 bathroom for 12 people in one dorm!! Was pretty unsocial hostel people kept themselves to themselves, usually on their phones! No wi-fi available in dorm either only common area.

Liked: This is probably the best hostel I've ever stayed in! Great location, lovely staff, very clean rooms and bathroom, good kitchen area, and a beach bar where breakfast is served. Good big breakfast of fruit, cereal, toasties and cake. Great Caiprinhas too! Would definitely stay there again.

Disliked: Slow WiFi, the room I stayed in didn't have a lock on the door, and it was outside of the main building, which when it rained meant i got wet.

Liked: First of all am very surprised that Geko don~t have much reviews here, because it was always fully booked .I booked for 3 nights and stayed for 3 weeks! This is my family in Brazil now and I will recommend Geko to every my friend who will travel to Brazil. The best hostel in Paraty, just 1 step from beach. I love it here and people are incredible helpful with everything. Rooms were cleaned 2 times per day. Breakfast on the beach was amazing! Lots of fruits, several drinks, toasts, cakes - in hotel in Paris I had less! Live music during the nights and huge asado and of course, caiperinia! :) Also we had kitchen to cook own meal. Also they have lots of excursions for every taste and pocket. We had such a great time together and big fun during carnival! Muito obrigada! Muchas gracias por todo y por todos! Visitame en Tailandia, amigos!

Liked: Is the best hostel in Parati-RJ, the price is always good, have another hostel in the same street and a restaurant on the beach with a good breakfast.
Disliked: I think that in the room 7 must have a wardrobe or something like this with keys to put our things and be safe.
