Customer Travel Tip: Have a stop here when travelling between Hue and Hanoi. Do the rowing boat tour through the limestone mountains and caves (8$ per person, 2 persons per boat). One day is enough to see it.
Liked: Not much to do in the city itself, however the limestone mountains were great (like Halong Bay but with rivers and rice paddies instead of the sea and tourist masses) and only 6km away (get a bicycle or walk through the rice paddies and little villages. many people will greet you and we did not see any other tourists)
Disliked: No

Customer Travel Tip: Be careful when tipping - we tipped the last who took us out on the boat and she asked for more. Give a tip at the end and just say no more.
Liked: It was very peaceful and quiet - perfect for relaxing. The national park and the boats in tam coc were excellent.
Disliked: Not too many restaurants to choose from.

Customer Travel Tip: Stay outside of the city centre if you can, it's a bit of a dive!
Liked: We did a 3 day, 2 night motorbike tour around cuc phong national park area, staying at homestays in local villages and it was a fantastic experience with mind blowing scenery. We also liked Chookies restaurant.
Disliked: We went to Tam Coc caves and after being harassed to buy a drink after the 3rd cavern, the driver of our boat basically demanded a tip, and then demanded a bigger tip - after we had already paid a total of 260,000 for our tickets! Having already ripped off by an unofficial parking service and generally treated like an inferior race all morning, that left a very sour taste in our mouths and given the time over, we wouldn't go again. Maybe try Trang An instead - they have more caves anyway.

Customer Travel Tip: You really should go to the national park :) It's so great...you can see there a 1000 year old tree. And there thousands of butterflys !! :)
Liked: We really liked the landsacpe. It was very nice !!
Disliked: If you want to go for party or something like that than is ninh binh not the best place...but if you want to relax and to see the "real" vietnam without tourists than you should go to ninh binh...an the best place where you can stay is outside of the city...it's so close to the mountains :)

Customer Travel Tip: Try to get together a group of people to make transportation costs more reasonable.
Liked: There are alot of sights around Ninh Binh but nothing really in the town.
Disliked: No tourist infrastracture so you are forced to see the sights by booking a private car through your hotel. As there is no competition this is extremely expensive and may not be worth your while to go to some of the sights by the time you fact in the high transport costs. There are also very limited eating options but most hotels serve decent food.

Customer Travel Tip: If you are on a budget and more than one person - stay at the Canh Dieu Hotel. The best staff I have ever met. Great value for money and amazing food, served in the lobby or in your room, for no extra charge.
Liked: The area is amazing. The town itself is a bit gloomy. BUT - not touristic. So you can learn a little about real industrial Vietnam and local life.
Disliked: It is not the most pleasant for women travelling alone. Again, not touristic, with it's good and bad sides.
