10 Jan 2014

Customer Travel Tip: Accept that if you are visiting during peak season your daily costs are going to be sky high, higher than anywhere else on the continent, budget $1200 a day. I think this place will be fascinating in late March when all the tourists are gone and you have the whole area to yourself.

Liked: At least some of the beaches are actually quite good. The little town of Manantiales where our hostel was based was lovely, very like New England, though incredibly expensive.

Disliked: Its outrageously dear and basically full of very rich, not very cheerful Argentines for a few months out of the year. It isn't actually that nice either, Rio has better beaches.

05 Dec 2013

Customer Travel Tip: Read my book Uruguayo Shade before you come ;-} (or at least the free sample, first chapter online at an ebook retailer -- it talks about a traveler's first impressions of Punta).

Liked: The people. Quiet walks along the beach. Great meals. The feeling of safety. The lack of stress. The people.

Disliked: Not disliked, there were some things I missed from home, but I've found things here I'll miss if/when I leave. In the above poll I was forced to make a choice about nightlife and parties and some other area features I haven't pursued -- those who were here for those seemed well pleased, but my required vote on those points is worthless and skews results.
