Customer Travel Tip: Take an overnight bus from Istanbul if at all possible if you are coming from Istanbul--it is a long ride and if you are limited on travel time, don't waste a whole day (the bus ride from Istanbul is about 6-7 hours).

Liked: I didn't actually spend much time in Canakkale but spent my time there visiting other places nearby like Troy and Bozcaada Island. For this purpose Canakkale was convenient--there were plenty of buses to get around and I loved seeing other cities besides just Istanbul! I definitely enjoyed getting outside of the city and getting away.

Customer Travel Tip: Gallipoli trip from Hassle Free Tours ( at Anzac House Hostel) include excellent films - documentary This Fatal Shore and the movie Gallipoli. Do make time for the small naval museum.

Liked: Access to Gallipoli and Troy - excellent Naval museum and minelayer. Loved the ferries across the Dardanelles.

Disliked: Not really - new bus station ( otogar) is out of town but has easy shuttles in

Trip Type:

Customer Travel Tip: Come with a friend or a group. There are very few bars and they are quite empty most days. Unless you intend to meet people over a few cups of turkish tea in the many teahouses you will largely be on your own and the city of troia is confusing enough to get around with several eyes lookign in all directions. Single travelers can of course manage though.

Liked: The sole reason for visiting Canakkale is the ancient city of Troia (troy), and the Gallipoli battlefields of WWI. The city is on the coast with great views across the Dardenelles and cool breezes at the right times. The city is quiet, and there is plenty of cheap food about, albeit fast food (kebabs, burgers, etc)

Disliked: There is no night life. A few pubs, many restaurantas do not serve beer (their culture). For a city that is on the coast there seems to be less than a handful of seafood restaurants. There was only 1 listed online and this 1 was the only one to be found. A coastal city with no seafood seems mythical, if it were not for the ancient Troy so nearby there would not be much reason to visit.

Backpacking / gap year Sightseeing & culture

Customer Travel Tip: You dont have to pay for a tour they are expansive its easy to do yourself. Buses are right near the ferry and will drop you off near enough to anzac cove (30min walk) its really beautiful to walk along the beach. May not be everyones cup of tea but if your on a budget it'll save you heaps! (3TL as opposed to 80TL)

Liked: It is the best way to get to Anzac Cove otherwise there is nothing that good about Canakkale.

Disliked: Its very touristy and aside from getting the ferry to Anzac cove there is nothing worth stopping for.
