Customer Travel Tip: If you don't like other tourists, this is the place for you.

Liked: Matara is a town where there are no halfnaked westerners walking around the streets and you can get to see the Sri Lankan life as it is. There is everything you need in Matara and all the whale watching, spa etc. activities are just around the corner.

Disliked: Nothing.

Customer Travel Tip: Don't stay in Polena.Move up the road to Mirrisa.More to eat, more to do and a better atmosphere.

Liked: Go to Keel's or Food City to save money. The conveince stores are all a rip off for basic supplies. The buses are frequent and numerous.Walk along the rocks between Polhena and Mirrisa and you will find numerous crabs.

Disliked: There is a general lack of restaurants.Perhaps the people don't have enough to eat?I saw many abandoned houses. They ought to help these people get started. The place has a great deal of potential.Don't take tuk tuk rides. They will charge you double. The drivers are basically lazy and sneaky.Instead tip your waiter generously. These guys work hard for about ten bucks a day while the owners profit handsomely.

Customer Travel Tip: It is better to stay outside Matara, at Polhena which lies at the outskirts of Matara. Matara offers good supermarkets where you can buy fruits, teas and juices. Especially, for globetrotters travelling on a tight budget, one should avoid most of the restaurants in Polhena. A good option is ABN restaurant on Beach road which charges good prices and offers delicious local food.

Liked: Good railway connection, easy to reach, some quiet beach spaces

Disliked: Bustling small town with few green spaces, mostly shops
