Customer Travel Tip: The best public access to the loch on the west side is from Fort Augustus. No public access from Drumnadrochit. This is both disappointing and elitist. We should all be able to enjoy the beauty of the loch!

Liked: The scenery was amazing. The castle is beautiful and the who area is peaceful and tranquil

Disliked: There is no public access to the loch anywhere near Drumnadrochit - one of the main villages on the loch. The only access is private - via the castle which is expensive to get in to, though it is beautiful, or by taking a costly boat trip from the private harbour.

Trip Type:
Backpacking / gap year Romantic getaway

Customer Travel Tip: Pack a vegetarian haggis bap and a bottle of water and go walking along the beautiful walking trails.

Liked: Beautiful view. Wonderful walks all around Fort Augustus that were stunning and quiet. Serene and tranquil little place with some lovely local gift shops. Perfect for a getaway.

Disliked: Wish the boat trips were cheaper. The bus from Inverness to Fort Augustus was also very bendy - not so nice for someone who easily feels motion sick.

Customer Travel Tip: none really

Liked: its just ok place

Disliked: avoid near by village hotel Arms and its restaurant, ( really small portions are robbery, no matter how nice the place looks like....and although the complain that we got small ( children) meals portions made them to give us normal meal , the waitress admitted that they give really small portions ( which was even worse, as not only the cook should serve normal meal, but waiter should not serve bad meals and should return it to cook without even being served first....simply bad management of the restaurant overall, and no other restaurant near by, just this 5 km away from hostel, thus be prepared rather to do your own pasta at the hostel)

Customer Travel Tip: Bring more clothes as it can be quite chilly during this time of the year. The day gets darker earlier (around one hour earlier than Manchester night), so, you can arrange your arrival time a bit early if possible, otherwise, you will be driving in the dark on the hilly roads.
