Customer Travel Tip: From the bus station, you can get to Listvyanka (for Lake Baikal) for around 100 rubles, one way. You will get charged a lot more by hostels, hotels or other means and it won't be any quicker. My hostel quoted 800 rubles one way.

Liked: I only really came here to get to Lake Baikal which I'd wanted to see. The city of Irkutsk is rather interesting in its own right though and it's well worth a walk around but I don't think you'd stay here more than a few days.

Customer Travel Tip: karl marksa street, lake Baikal...

Liked: I enjoyed the excursion to Lake Baikal and the city in general. There was a nice festive party for all in the community along the river which made for a nice ambiance. People were polka dancing and kids were riding reindeer. Also the city felt very safe. The walk to the train station at 1:30 in the morning felt safe.

Disliked: hostels are difficult to find as they are usually in apartment building with little or no signage.

Customer Travel Tip: Learn some Russian to get around. Go see Lake Baikal. Once again, go see Lake Baikal (I can't express this enough.) If you can, meet some locals. You are in a part of Russia that many people don't see - it has a flavor all of it's own.

Liked: Small town feel, comfortable and lovely along the river during the summer. Did you know there's a lake there? Apparently a big one (Baikal) - GO TO IT!

Disliked: Be careful, just because it is small doesn't mean there isn't crime. It's not widely apparent, but just keep your wits about you, primarily after dark.
