Trip Type:

Customer Travel Tip: Don't eat from the cheap food stands by the beach as food poisoning is guaranteed

Liked: Very relaxed and relatively safe little town with a nice atmosphere. Perfect for relaxing holidays.

Disliked: The beach has almost disappeared during the last 4 years and the current one left is not very nice. It also gets very crowded and extremely dirty during weekends as people just leave all the rubbish at the beach. This Peruvian indifference and lack of respect for the environment always makes me angry.

Customer Travel Tip: Stay here instead of Trujillo - it's cheaper and feels a lot safer wandering around in the evening.

Liked: A very chilled out place - we decided to stay here instead of Trujillo and we weren't disappointed. Only 1 sol and 15 minutes to get into Trujillo and the bus can even drop you off at the gate to Chan Chan.

Disliked: The beach isn't really clean and the water looks far too dirty for any thoughts of swimming.

Customer Travel Tip: Only need to stay for 2-3 days. Hire a taxi for S./40 with other people to show you the four sites: Chan Chan, Museo de Chan Chan, Huaca Esmeralda, y Huaca del Dragon. Be careful when visiting Huacas del Luna y Sol. We wanted to wander around them by ourselves, but a tourist was robbed at gunpoint just a few days before. Better to take a taxi or combi to/from these sites.

Liked: Chan Chan & ruins, being in a sleepy beach town near a bigger city

Disliked: Outside of visiting the ruins and surfing, there aren't many activities. At about noon every day, a nasty thick haze settled over the town, making laying on the beach less appealing. I've decided to wait to take surfing lessons in a warmer place...

Customer Travel Tip: Get on the collectivo and head to Trujillo for 1.5 pen and visit Chan Chan.Much more impressive than I ever expected, better than many other top tourist destinations around the world, with no one there. If you decide to pay a guide(we did it on our own) you can badger a good deal.Take plenty of water and sun cream.
