Customer Travel Tip: Be aware that you may have some "nice" people come up and talk to you, sometime for quite a long time. They will then try and get you to go up to a 2 story store to buy stuff. They will say that it is all handmade and from a women's cooperative or anything else to sell it. It isn't. They will also say that the store is only open for a few days, so you must buy now. It isn't. Don't worry the situation isn't dangerous at all and kind of funny, but definitely annoying. Hey, who knows, maybe you will want something in the store!

Liked: I love colonial architecture and colors.

Disliked: I'm not a city, girl. :) I prefer other colonial cities in the area: Campeche and Valladolid .

Customer Travel Tip: Watch out for the people on the streets that, while they may be helpful, are always trying to steer you to certain places, shops that they obviously have a connection with.

Liked: History and culture of the city. Weekend festivities at the main square.

Disliked: A very busy, bustling city with narrow sidewalks in many places. Some might not find this to their liking.

Customer Travel Tip: Eat at the food carts, don't bother with restaurants. Check out the murals in the Palacio de Gobierno because they are beautiful, moving, and the entrance is free.

Liked: We were there on Saturday and Sunday and LOVED the street festival feel of the whole weekend. And, the many art and culture museums surrounding the main square (in general) were wonderful and we took full advantage. People were very nice (even when soliciting sales) and we felt completely safe night and day. I will definitely go back to Merida!

Disliked: I loved my entire experience.

Customer Travel Tip: Visit the market - the tacos are delicious and half the price than anywhere else in town!

Liked: Nice big plaza and grand colonial buildings. It was easy to walk around and see the city.

Disliked: It is a bit bigger and more busy than other cities we have visited in Mexico (such as Oaxaca, San Cristobal and Tulum). We found the cars and traffic (& a bit of pollution) a bit much at times

Customer Travel Tip: Make sure to visit the Mexican history and art museum in the government building located off the central plaza

Customer Travel Tip: Do not miss a chance to swim in cenotes! In Cuzama village, you can take 3 swims and travel with a horse-pulled railcart between the holes - excellent! For hammocks, store at a local prison is a good choice. It takes <1h roundtrip from the city.

Liked: The city itself does not have too many attractions, but there is so much to do around the city! Trips to the pyramids, cenotes, haciendas, beaches... we had to make tough choices with only 3 days available!

Disliked: The number of touts was much higher than anywhere else we encountered in Mexico. They 'attack' you as you walk the streets.

Customer Travel Tip: Visit Uxmal and the cenotes at Cuzama. Both are easily accessible from Merida. Also, no matter how sunny it is when you leave your hotel, be prepared for torrential downpours!

Liked: Beautiful town, fantastic architecture. Lots of free concerts and dancing on at the weekend in the open spaces. Two interesting museums (art and anthropology). The city felt very safe, even at night.

Disliked: The centre is v.touristy, with many touts hassling locals to buy goods or tours in the main plaza.
