Customer Travel Tip: Look to stay very close to the city centre as tuk tuks or other local transport are very expensive, enjoy the night markets and the excursions available around town (waterfalls, caves and river cruise)

Liked: Culture, street vendors and chilled atmosphere

Disliked: A bit expensive compared to other countries in south East Asia.

Trip Type:
Sightseeing & culture

Customer Travel Tip: I would suggest 4 days or so to take in the atmosphere and charm of the place. Do some of the excursions on offer in the town , especially waterfalls and elephant riding and Mekong river boat ride.

Liked: Pleny of excursions available like the waterfals , caves , river trips , elephant riding etc. Plenty of sites within the city , temples , shops , riverside walks etc. Very picturesque and atmospheric place to stay for a few days. Many good for value restaurants and a few nice bars. Also thought products on sale at the night market were generally of good value (certainly better than Vientianne night market).

Disliked: A little bit touristy in the centre and would be nice if there were a few more locals in the bars and restaurants to talk to.

Backpacking / gap year Beach / sunbathing Events / festivals Relaxation / spa Romantic getaway Sightseeing & culture Sports, adventure or outdoor activities

Customer Travel Tip: If you come here for partying, don't. Do it in Vang Vieng. The monks and locals resent obnoxious behavior.

Liked: Tranquility (during morning and afternoon), safe, friendly locals, lots of nice temples, cheap food and souvenirs.

Disliked: LP is a relaxed town, but the atmosphere is ruined by throngs of loud, drunken and obnoxious party animals who have come up north from Vang Vieng. Air quality is bad during slash and burn season so expect coughing and sore throats.
