Customer Travel Tip: Don't spend your whole time here learning about the WWII bomb, learn about Nagasaki's history with trade and industry.

Liked: Very different to the other places I went in Japan! Interesting history. Also, very different to Hiroshima so don't write off as the "less accessible A-bomb city".

Disliked: A long excursion off the shinkansen route.

Customer Travel Tip: There are at least two tour groups for Gunkanjima - the one I went on was the cheaper of the two (¥3300 total) and it took you to an extra island to see the Mitsubishi mining museum. It spends slightly less time on Gunkanjima but you can only see the southwest corner of the island anyway, so it makes no difference. If you go in winter, wrap up warm - the sea breeze is very cold!

Liked: The Gunkanjima tour, the Atomic Bomb museum, the Peace Park and Mount Inasa gave a varied experience and they can all be done on a day if you plan it well.

Disliked: The Gunkanjima visit, while worth it, is entirely in Japanese. The Atomic Bomb Museum costs more than the Hiroshima one but has less on display (but still with a visit). The Ropeway is expensive if you don't have a discount card.

Customer Travel Tip: Make sure you see the view down from Mount Inasa. And obviously, visit the atomic bomb memorials.

Liked: It had a great atmosphere and we liked it immediately. Wonderful views of the harbour from Mount Inasa - took the cable car up there. Some very interesting and poignant exhibitions in the atomic bomb museum and peace park - a must-see. Some fab shops in covered arcades and little streets.

Customer Travel Tip: Get into the street food in Nagasaki, it's the kind of Kyushu 'meibutsu' that you won't often come across in Honshu. The trams are a great way to get around the town if you don't want to walk in the heat - get an all day pass from the tourist information centre at the JR station for unlimited travel on the trams. One more thing, I would recommend climbing the ropeway to Mt Inasa observation tower just before dark , rather than after dark - I heard it gets really crowded at night, but if you go just as the sun's setting, there aren't as many people, plus you can see the sky transform into the night which is quite beautiful.

Liked: I think Nagasaki is a cute city that's not too big at all. I like how it's surrounded by mountains, yet the harbour is also just a short walk from the city center. You can see how the city has been influenced by other countries' cultures, which gives it a bit of a character that's unique in Japan. I liked walking around the whole city, especially the Chinatown and Dejima Wharf areas.

Disliked: All in all my experience was very positive. If I had to say one thing, I guess the weather was a bit hot and humid, and I heard that it's often quite cloudy in Kyushu.

Customer Travel Tip: Walk up the hill behind the hostel and river, past all the graves and you have a fantastic view of the city.

Liked: There were lots of things to do and see.

Disliked: The city is quite spread out in terms of its attractions but this isn't a major problem as the tram links most places. Staff at the tourist information at the station aren't overly helpful.
