Liked: From my point of view Kobe is idyllic! You have the sea on one side and mountains on the other. People are generally friendly as you come to expect in Japan. There's plenty to see and do, and the weather isn't too bad except during typhoon season.
Disliked: Nothing

Customer Travel Tip: Unless there is something you want to do at night, Kobe is probably best seen as a day trip from Kyoto or Osaka. The subways are not very comprehensive, so prepare yourself to walk or bike if you want to cover lots of ground without going out of your way.
Liked: Really good food, and really good shopping! There are lots of Western brands available. The Port area looked beautiful at night!
Disliked: Most of the restaurants close between 3 and 5 or 6, which the last order at 2:30, so if you are looking for a late lunch or an early dinner, you are out of luck and will have to get some fast food or cake instead.

Customer Travel Tip: If you have the money, be sure to try the world famous Kobe beef. Although it will probably cost you upwards of $300 for the meal, it's a really special treat for all the foodies out there. Ask your hostel/hotel/guesthouse host for their recommendations.
Liked: Easy transport system, lots of great restaurants and nightlife. The locals are polite and friendly.
Disliked: Nothing worth mentioning, we had a great time in Kobe.

Liked: The meat is fabulous but way too overpriced. The city is really close to Osaka, so we used Kobe as a base camp for daily trips to the surrounding area.
Disliked: We had to use a lot (and pay for) the subway even though we had already the JR pass.

Customer Travel Tip: plan your trip, like anywhere else
Liked: it's not considered by tourist so normally you will not see western people there are three nice places you need to see : the Tetsujin 28 Go statue, Oji Zoo and Kobe Kachoen (you can touch some birds, ducks, etc.) The weather (and it was not beach season) was not on my side but consider the Suma beach, it's right on the JR train station.
