Customer Travel Tip: Speak French! The people around Carcassone only speak French. You may find a couple of places where the crew try to speak english, but if you can speak French you will have a better experience.

Liked: The upper city is amazing. The citadel makes you feel back in the medieval era. Is a great place full of nice people, good restaurans and amazing sights.

Disliked: The city out of the citadel is very charming, though a lot of places are closed during the day, so sometimes is kind of difficult to find something, but is not bad. Actually the city has no cons.

Customer Travel Tip: Comfortable shoes as public transport or Taxis are not easily available.

Liked: La Cite is breathtaking and well worth the climb up from the new town.

Disliked: We were there from 16th May for 5 days found it very difficult to find a decent restaurant which was open at night. If you are not a fan of Cassoulet the menus on offer are very limited. This is a shame as we great food has always a highlight of our trips to France.

City break

Customer Travel Tip: 4 days is probably enough to get a good handle on the place but very difficult and expensive to get around the area if you do not have a car.

Liked: Beautiful city, lovely people and very walkable. Good places to eat.

Disliked: No buses outside the city. Train travel was extortionate and not customer friendly.

Customer Travel Tip: Spend time walking about the old town, there are plenty of interesting things to see if you are interested in architecture, then hire a car and visit some of the beautiful medieval villages around the city as well as some of the lovely locations on the mountains, both north and south of Carcassonne.

Liked: Center of a very interesting region for art, architecture and nature, easy to move about. Some beautiful examples of medieval and 18th-19th century architecture.

Disliked: The old town has been abandoned by much of its inhabitants who moved to newer areas around the city, so the Bastide can feel quite neglected and empty.

Customer Travel Tip: Carcassonne itself will occupy you for a couple of days. After that you will want to visit the surrounding areas. Having a car is best as the public transport is limited. But we managed to visit Quillan by train for 1 euro and Lastours by bicycle hire.

Liked: Carcassonne itself has beautiful architecture and an interesting history. It can easily occupy you for a good couple of days. You can explore the old and the new towns as well as walk along the river Aude. It is in a good location for exploring the wider area- preferably by car but if not there are a couple of trips which can be done by train and cycle hire as well as organised excursions.

Disliked: Carcassonne was a quieter town than I though it would be and is great for a couple of days but after that there is little left to explore. The public transport links were limited for fully exploring the surrounding area. Buses/trains were either not frequent enough or too expensive. Therefore it is best to have a car with you if you are staying for more than a long weekend.

Customer Travel Tip: Check the train schedule for each day (there aren't all that many trains to and from Carcassonne so you can get "stuck" for a couple of hours)
