Customer Travel Tip: Be firm when you say NO to the vendors. Look past the rubbish and squalor, Luxor is on the up and will only get better with more tourism and positive word of mouth.
Liked: It's a really vibrant city, with a bit of everything. Prices are good and always negotiable and everyone is really friendly. Transport is really easy to organize as the van taxis are always around.
Disliked: As with most Egyptian cities it is quite dirty everywhere, and cats and dogs everywhere. Also with most Egyptian cities you get haggled all the time to buy stuff, when you just want to go for a walk.

Customer Travel Tip: We went with our children of 13 and 15 yrs and there are entry fees to get into all the sites but they would not believe they were students to get the reduced fare. Take some form of student card and they will be half price.
Liked: The sites to see are amazing, the river Nile is beautiful and interesting.
Disliked: The country is struggling for tourists in the present climate so they all want your business and you get quite a lot of hassle, Whilst they were always pleasant and we felt safe, you would like to be a little more left alone whilst travelling around. All the people who took us on tours were very knowledgeable and helpful.

Customer Travel Tip: Spend at least 3 days there - there is so much to see, from the Valley of the Kings to Karnak Temple, you need a lot of time. Understand that the place used to be a thriving tourist town and the amount of hassle you get is a result of the industry failing and people struggling to make a living.
Liked: So many fantastic monuments and tombs to see, great weather, very friendly people.
Disliked: Due to the failing tourist industry in Egypt some merchants and drivers can be very overbearing; be prepared for a lot of hassle when wondering the streets. many restaurants have closed down due to no trade and the few remaining have limited available menus. We ate at our hostel for all meals.

Customer Travel Tip: Don't trust anyone coming up to you and being nice on the street. Even children. Their parents may have put them up to it to seduce you and then act as if they are just being nice to a guest and then might bring you tea or something and then charge you for it.
Liked: the ancient egyptian ruins that are all over the city.
Disliked: The neverending salespitches from people selling everything and wanting bakshesh and the deception they use to lure you in.
18 Jan 2014
Customer Travel Tip: Don't trust anyone approaching you no matter how friendly they are, they will be as friendly as they can get money out of you. Don't go into any shop when asked by someone to 'just have a look' or sit an have a cup of tea. It never was like it seemed. There are many great Egyptians, but not in the tourist industry and if they are then they are as good as you have the ability to pay.
Liked: The sites
Disliked: Being constantly asked for money or scammed

Customer Travel Tip: Stay only 2 days if you are seeing the main attractions in Luxor, don’t stay on West Bank as you will need a taxi to take you everywhere and all the action is Luxor, the side where the train station / Luxor temple is located. Boomerang/Bob Marley Hostel is highly recommended as you will find an Australian who has your best interest at heart who runs the joint. Like the rest of Egypt, set your price for EVERYTHING before doing it and make sure it is in Egyptian pounds, not English, walk away or ask the driver to stop and let you off if they try to say it is for 'free' or do not commit to a price. People will approach you and say “Hi, remember me, I am the cook from the Hotel”, ask, "Which hotel?" or any question such as "What is the manager's name?" etc. Besides all the scamming that goes on to get your money from almost everyone that approaches you, it is still a lovely place and Luxor is just amazing. Oh and DO NOT go to the Mummification Museum in Luxor unless you have money to waste. You’ll feel so disappointed/ripped off when you leave a single room that takes less than 2 minutes to see and nothing worth seeing inside it.
Liked: Valley of the kings
Disliked: Being constantly hassled for money.
