Travel Type:
With my spouse / partner

Trip Type:
Backpacking / gap year Beach / sunbathing Romantic getaway Sightseeing & culture

Customer Travel Tip: Bring plenty of suncream and do not stay out in the sun too long. No cash point in town for foreigners so bring plenty of cash or face a 20km journey to get more.

Liked: A pretty seafront small town with a superb long beach. Decent surf, safe swimming and eqipement to hire. Has a tranquil feel and a laid back party atmosphere. Excellent choice of places to eat & drink. Local people helpful & friendly.

Disliked: Too many Americans? There is a real sense that big money has moved into Canoa and is changing the essence of the town to create a profitable tourist scene to the detriment of local people, who are being forced inland by rising sea front property prices.

Customer Travel Tip: There's a nighlty bus to Quito that leaves at 9.45pm from outside Hotel Sharit in the main street. You purchase your bus ticket (US$10) from the pharmacy. The bus is direct and arrives in Quito about 4am.

Liked: The beach is beautiful, the sea lovely and warm with good waves for surfing. Very friendly people. The restarant at Hotel Bamboo - both the food and coctails - is amazing.
