Customer Travel Tip: Be aware that most restaurants tack on a whopping 26-28% to each bill, and this does not even include the tip.

Liked: The Zona Colonial was interesting and the people were friendly and helpful.

Disliked: There don't appear to be any municipal services. Specifically, no garbage pick-up. The streets and waterfront are covered in trash.

Trip Type:
Beach / sunbathing Sightseeing & culture Sports, adventure or outdoor activities

Customer Travel Tip: We were there on a Sunday so a lot was closed; I'd advise going on another day(s) of the week to be able to see and do more.

Liked: The Zona Colonial is walkable so it's easy to move around the area without having to worry about taxis. It's clear they're putting resources into making the area more friendly to tourists and it's just a lovely section of the city. We didn't see much else, however.

Disliked: Not really, it was on-par with other Latin American cities I've visited.

Customer Travel Tip: Go here and just walk around town. Go 5 min north into the 'barrio' which is safe, even though some might discourage it. I personally loved it as I have experienced that walking around with a smile and an open attitude will get you som great experiences. Also, and not only for Santo Domingo, it might be good to pratice "No, gracias" and "Hola".

Liked: Great atmospheric city.

Disliked: A little bit lacking in sights if you're not into churches.

Customer Travel Tip: I'd say do a few days here, but if you're staying longer, take a guagua to an out of town location so you don't get tired of the city. Be on top of your Spanish, little English is spoken here. Carry plenty of cash.

Liked: A lively city with a great vibe. It feels like a second home, maybe because I look Dominican lol. I really need to work on my Spanish though because its embarrassing looking so ignorant.

Disliked: Its primarily a cash based economy, so your dollars though they go far, they go quick. I actually got some good stuff though. Santo Domingo really needs to institute stricter pollution laws. It has so much potential and its just spoiled by all the garbage on the streets. Invest in the cleaning and rebuilding of the infrastructure.

Customer Travel Tip: Buff up on your Spanish, and be ready for an adventure!

Liked: The Zona Colonial is beautiful and it is so close to the beautiful beach of Boca Chica, where you can eat the best fish of your life! Also, the Sunday night merenge/ salsa band in the Plaza in the Zona Colonial is a great lace to dance the night away any given Sunday!

Disliked: The public transportation is very much lacking, and it is difficult tog et around if you don't have a car of your own.
