Customer Travel Tip: Bring cash with you! There is no atm or bank within hours of Tortuguero and many of the restaurants and hotels do not accept credit cards. Need to plan ahead.

Liked: A beautiful area for nature lovers! There is no vehicle transportation permitted in the area, so walking is the only form of transport although the area is quite small and very easy and safe to get around. The locals were very helpful and friendly, and we had a very enjoyable experience.

Disliked: The area is quite a distance from major cities and requires several hours of travel (both car/bus and 2 hour boat), so it is worth staying at least an overnight (or several).

Customer Travel Tip: Getting there seemed easier than getting away. In low season boats don't come/go to certain places EVERY day. I tried for 2 days to get a boat to Puerta Viejo and due to "too few people" the boat just did not come so I was stuck an extra day and night and then it still didn't come so had to get ferry boat and 4 buses instead of 1 boat and taxi. I lost money on 2 nights accommodation that I had booked but couldn't make it in time. So if travelling in low season be patient when leaving, don't book things ahead of time after Toetuguero, do it once you're on the boat outve there!

Liked: Small enough to do a lot in just a few days. 2 nights and 2 days would be sufficient amount of time.
