Customer Travel Tip: Keep it short and use as a base to go to the national park and thermal baths.

Liked: The able car is not to be missed. Please note that that hostel is not actually in Manizales but outside in a coffee plantation.

Disliked: Its a bit rough around the edges, lots of casinos and police but we were the only gringos in town!

Customer Travel Tip: Go to the mountain NEXT TO Nevado del Ruiz.

Liked: Nevado del Ruiz National Park is the best thing about this city. The city itself has a nice vibe. People are very polite, the transportation is efficient and cheap. It's an incredibly clean and beautiful city with the best views.

Disliked: Other than the park and the beauty of the city, there's not a ton to do, it's just a city,

Customer Travel Tip: - Check with the Mountain House for information on trekking opportunities. - Get out of Manizales as quickly as you can and head to Salento.

Liked: If you're travelling into the Zona Cafetera or hiking in Los Nevados, you'll probably pass through Manizales. It's a rather uninteresting mid-sized college town surrounded by some beautiful mountains.

Disliked: While several companies offer excursions into the nearby national park, we found all the options to be poor value - either they provide transport but little chance to hike, or they provide guides but rely on very expensive taxis for transport. Also, for some reason Manizales is one of the worst cities in Colombia for dining, with an abundance of plastic fast food but very few places with the hearty food and relaxed atmosphere that most of the country does so well. Pretty much everything here is aimed at young Colombian students; for everyone else, i'd recommend the lovely Salento as a better base for the region.
