Customer Travel Tip: Bring handheld electronic devices to find this hostel and study in advance as it will be tricky to rely on others, if you are not fortunate.
Liked: The people were very smiley, and helpful in their own way. The food smelt absolutely delicious and I'm sure the more adventurous taster would be rewarded.
Disliked: I can't understand the Chinese language at all (my own fault, of course), so was hesitant about eating some of the food on offer

Liked: Relaxed feeling, cheap
Disliked: No subway yet, without map it is hard to navigate

Customer Travel Tip: Use local buses. They are very cheap and can take you anywhere you want to go. Only problem is traffic jams, so avoid rush hours!
Liked: There are so many nice things to do and pleasant places to walk.
Disliked: It's a pity they keep changing the access to Gulangyu Island.

Customer Travel Tip: Generally with China, prepare a VPN account so that you can use internet services and websites we take for granted back home.
Liked: Quite a sizeable expatriate community. Fresh clean air compared with other cities in China
Disliked: Not much. For westerners, Xiamen is probably one of the most habitable cities in China, although be prepared to rub shoulders with other Chinese tourist, especially on weekends.

Liked: Gulang yu. Nanputuo temple.
Disliked: They could have tours to the tolou's. It's difficult by public transport if you don't speak Chinese.

Customer Travel Tip: Stay on the main island and Gu Lang Yu is not really worth a whole day or more, so just go there for an afternoon is enough.
Liked: The plants, it is soooo grean in the city. Loved it!
Disliked: The weather is always humid, really really humid. And the traffic is not ideal.

Customer Travel Tip: Empty Taxi's are few and far between... Research the public transport or you may get stuck in the middle of nowhere for a while.
Liked: I loved the mixture of old world Europe meets new world asia. The island was fantastic I will definitely be visiting again.

Liked: Culture and friendly people of Xiamen. Lost my way and asked anyone out there including the bus driver, help us to get around.

Customer Travel Tip: Visit Gulangyu. I got an early ferry to avoid the crowds & spent a long, but enjoyable day there. For 100RMB you can buy a ticket to see 5 sites.
Liked: Many places of interest & good transport
Disliked: It was grey & foggy most of my week in Feb, but when the sun came out it was beautiful. It wasn't too cold & it didn't stop me getting around.

Customer Travel Tip: Take the back alleys of Gulungyu island it has an interesting character
Liked: Gulangyu island was a nice site despite it being so crowded, and retrospectively I wish I stayed in or near the toulou
Disliked: Getting around by taxi and bus all the time was a little inconvenient

Customer Travel Tip: Go to the Island, go to the beaches. Explore Old Town and the markets!
Liked: The island Gulangyu is nice, lots of great old architecture, beaches, interesting artsy feel going on.
Disliked: Lots of construction and development going on - so can feel like your going no where and seeing nothing.

Customer Travel Tip: The beach walk is wonderful. The European art centre n Mass box defi worth visiting.
Liked: The beach, the European art centre and nice people. Good weather always, and beautiful landscape.
Disliked: Transport. Extremely difficult to get a taxi sometimes especially around the train station. Can take up to hours to get one.

Customer Travel Tip: Hakka houses, just 3 hours away from Ximaen (2hr to Nanjin + 1hr bus to first Tulou village). Sure worth a visit. Gulanyu
Liked: Nice atmosphere, get lost in small market and streets, the mix of colonial and Chinese houses, the food
Disliked: 4 days of rain in a row :-)

Customer Travel Tip: Take a bus to the Tulou houses. Liulian has a nice girl that will greet you when you get off the bus and you can stay a night in the Tulou across the street. It's a good experience.
Liked: We went in December and the weather was very nice, especially compared to Suzhou where I have been living. We went to Liulian to stay at a Tulou and saw about five different Tulou areas. Very cool!
Disliked: Gulangyu was a bit more touristy than I thought it would be, but it was okay.
