Customer Travel Tip: Don't spend too long in the city - the desert and grasslands are the only the thing worth staying for (and even they're not great!)

Liked: Nice noodle places

Disliked: No English anywhwere. Very few street signs. Taxi drivers hard to pick up. Very dusty and cold around city

Customer Travel Tip: Be prepared for the weather. It can be cold in the winter and a good jacket is needed. Likewise, learn some of the language to ask directions. Also carry a map with you.

Liked: I like the culture it offered compared to other parts of China.

Disliked: The public transport system was a bit difficult (buses) and require you to know some mandarin to ask directions or when or where to stop.

Customer Travel Tip: Visit the Inner Mongolian Museum (it's free, five stories, and really comprehensive)! Also, Anda Guesthouse offers fairly reasonable overnight tours to the grasslands and the desert, if you want a fairly authentic experience.

Liked: The air is so pure, which is a major plus after living in China for two years! I loved the chance to stay in a yurt, try traditional Mongolian food, and learn a little Mongolian.

Disliked: The public buses were less frequent than I'm used to (sometimes you'd have to wait 30 minutes for a particular bus). Other than that, a great city!

Customer Travel Tip: Try to book a grassland tour that involves a local family and not a yurt farm.

Liked: I liked that there weren't other Westerners and the grasslands are quite close.

Disliked: Taxi drivers did not pick up foreigners and the pollution was incredibly bad.

Customer Travel Tip: Both the desert and the grasslands are a long way from Hohhot, so if you have enough time, base your trips/tours to the desert/grasslands from a different city.

Liked: The weather was fantastic and the taxis are cheaper than Beijing.

Disliked: Not alllllll that much to do.

Customer Travel Tip: Make sure to plan your trip beforehand so you are not stuck at your hostel bored or not doing much.

Liked: A city touched by Mongolian culture. Great food and nice people. But still being a city, it felt like any other if you did not really try and find "authentic" things to do.

Disliked: A lot of black taxis.

Customer Travel Tip: Visit the new Inner Mongolia Museum. It is free and I love the exhibits on the 2nd floor. Near the Da Zhao Temple, the Guan Yin Temple and her Guan Yin statues are worth visiting. It is also free of charge.

Liked: Nice people, good weather and one can get a glimpse of Mongolian culture and the culture of Chinese muslims.

Disliked: Climate is quite dry.
