Holidays and weekends are made for eating long, hearty delicious breakfasts that will keep you going for the day. And personally I’m a massive fan of a great big breakfast or brunch on a Saturday or Sunday morning, if I didn’t have to be at work early every day I’d do it on a daily basis!
London is just overflowing with great places to have a good breakfast. The problem however, is deciding where to go. Below are ten of my favourite breakfast venues around London, it’s far from exhaustive, but a start.
Drool over more breakfasts in our round-up of 50 of the World’s Best Breakfasts
1. The Riding House Café
Whenever I fancy pancakes The Riding House Café on Great Titchfield Street is my number one choice. Just a five minute walk from Oxford Street, The Riding House Café is the perfect place to chill out over a long brunch or breakfast with friends. The menu has some great choices but their perfectly cooked mouthwatering pancakes served with fresh berries, vanilla clotted cream and maple syrup are not to be overlooked. They also do great juices and smoothies, which are served in pint sized milk bottles.
43-51 Great Titchfield Street, W1W 7PQ
2. The Diner
The Diner is a classic American style diner fully decked out with red booths and a menu guaranteed to fill you up. They have a number of venues around London my two favourite being in Soho and Angel. Whether you’re looking for a cooked breakfast, a giant stack of blueberry pancakes, French toast or a hearty burger you have got to have it with one of their divine milkshakes.
21 Essex Road, Canonbury, N1 2SA
If a quick but amazing coffee and a light breakfast before exploring London is what you need, Kaffeine is the place for you. Opposite The Riding House Café and just off Oxford Street, Kaffeine serves one of London’s best coffee’s and they have a great selection of pastries, baguette’s, foccacia, sweet or savoury muffins or cakes to go with your coffee.
66 Great Titchfield Street , W1W 7QJ
4. Village East
If your wonderings in London take you in the neighbourhood of Borough Market and Bermondsey, Village East is a great place to pop in to start your day. The Village Breakfast is a hearty but delicious cooked breakfast; they also do a great scrambled egg on Sourdough toast along with a tempting selection of breakfast cocktails.
171-173 Bermondsey Street, SE1 3UW
This gorgeous and slightly quirkily decorated café is in the heart of Soho and serves a great veggie breakfast with chili scrambled egg, hummus, guacamole and toast. They have other breakfast options as well, but the veggie breakfast is definitely worth a try even if you are a habitual meat eater.
36-44 Brewer Street, W1F 9TB
6. The Breakfast Club
Another great place for a substantial breakfast is The Breakfast Club, my favourite of which is in Soho. It is quite small inside and there is often a queue to get in. If you have the time however, the breakfast is worth a little wait. They do a great breakfast or bacon and egg pancakes with lashings of maple syrup to drizzle on top.
33 D’Arblay Street, W1F 8EU
Now if you’re after something slightly more exotic , Dishoom’s authentic Bombay style cuisine is a must. Near Covent Garden and Leicester Square tube the food here is really great and they do an amazing egg naan roll with chili jam on the side that will give you that often much needed morning kick start.
2 Upper St. Martin’s Lane, WC2H 9FB
The original of which is in Maida Vale, Roul’s in Notting Hill is a shop and restaurant serving delicious food with a great breakfast selection. From a cooked breakfast to Roul’s frittata, eggs Florentine or Benedict along with a host of other options, it’s a great place to chill out and just a few streets away from bustling Portobello Road and the market.
105-107 Talbot Road, W11 2AT
9. Balans Café
The only reason I go here is for the breakfast burrito which comes with spiced scrambled eggs, pepper, cheese, salsa fresca and sour cream. But breakfast burrito aside, Balans Café is a lovely place to spend a few hours enjoying the food and the ambience. And you’ve got your choice of venues; Soho, Earls Court and Kensington to name but a few.
34 Old Compton Street, Soho, W1D 4TS
10. Lucky 7
And finally, a great place to get a much needed hangover cure, Lucky 7 is another diner style eatery which serves an immense cooked veggie or meat breakfast, Huevos Rancheros, breakfast burritos, pancakes and cooked eggs any way you want. And like Roul’s it’s in a great location close to Notting Hill and Hyde Park.
127 Westbourne Park Road, W2 5QL
