We’ve covered the parades in NYC, LAS, San Francisco and WashingtonBarcelona, LondonMunich and Amsterdam – now it’s Berlin’s turn.

In Germany’s LGBT capital you’ll find one of the best Gay Pride’s in Europe, known locally as Christopher Street Day. Since 1979 the Day has expanded from a demonstration of a few hundred to an incredible parade of hundreds of thousands. And this year they’re expecting more than 700,000.

Berlin Gay Pride Parade

The parade takes place on Saturday, 22 June and will start at 12:30pm on the corner of Kurfurstendamn and Knesebeckstrasse, then parading east past Wittenbergplatz and Nollendorfplatz. It’ll then turn through leafy Tiergarten park to the towering Victory Column (Siegessaule), before turning east through the park to end at Brandenburg Gate. It lasts for four hours when it ends at the Pride Rally near Brandenburg Gate.

There’ll be a disco corner, chill-out lounge and awards presented. For full festival information click here.

The Festival

Berlin’s huge lesbian and gay street fair takes place during the last week of Gay Pride. Demonstrating for ‘Equal Rights for the Unequal’ the festival is held in the traditional gay area of Nollendorfplatz in Schöneberg. The best in food, music, politics, film, travel, street entertainers and DJs will be there and it goes on late into the night.

Christopher Street Day on the Spree is a huge boat party on the banks of the Spree River. All the boats have sold out but you can join all the other latecomers on the banks to party all night. If you haven’t had enough by Sunday head to the Transgeniale CSD in Kreuzberg.

The Circus Hostel is one of HostelBookers’ top-rated – they giveaway a crazy amount of stuff for free every day including beer and food and the hostel has a great communal atmosphere. It’s also in a great location in Mitte. Just watch out for the Hasselhoff shrine. Dorms start at €19 pppn.
