We all know that Hollywood is the playground of the rich and the famous. Almost every celebrity and movie star worth his salt either has a property or has stayed in one of the top Hollywood hotels over the years.
However, you don’t have to shell out hundreds or in some cases even thousands of dollars to live the Hollywood dream while staying in LA.
Here’s our list of five LA hostels we’d recommend for all the glitz and glamour without the Hollywood price tag.
1. USA Hostels Hollywood
Prices start at €25.78 pp for a shared room
USA Hostels Hollywood is about as near as you can get to Hollywood without actually being there. Just a few steps from the Hollywood walk of fame, and next door to the Opera Nightclub where many a Hollywood star hangs out, you’ll feel like a VIP from the moment you walk in the door.
If creature comforts are more your thing, you’ll appreciate the hostels superb shared kitchen and en-suite dorms. Private rooms also feature HD ready flat screen TVs, state-of-the-art air-conditioning units and comfy duvets which will make your stay feel more Hilton than hostel.
Nice touches include the free all you-can-make pancakes, tea, coffee and oatmeal on and the free beach shuttle service.
However, arguably USA Hostels Hollywood’s best feature is its atmosphere. It has a great garden patio and spacious lounge where it hosts regular open mike nights. The hostel also runs regular pub crawls and is no stranger to all night parties, comedy nights or scrummy BBQs which would leave Bruce Willis drooling at the mouth!
Verdict: A top party hostel well worth staying at if you’re after comfort and good times during your time in LA.

2. Banana Hollywood Hostel
Banana Hollywood Hostel has everything you could possibly want from a hostel and then some- 6-8 bed dorms with satellite TV, comfy beds and private kitchens as standard, a warm and welcoming courtyard which regularly features live music and dancing, a movie theatre with a big screen and surround sound and a tiki garden great for sunbathing and BBQ area. We could go on but hopefully you’ve got the picture!
Parties and pub crawls are regular occurrences, while there are more freebies than you could ever want including a hearty free breakfast, free tea and coffee throughout the day and free wireless internet access.
It’s hard to believe that the Banana Hollywood Hostel is a hostel given the level of services and facilities you get for your money but if you were being picky you’d have to say that the hostel could be a bit cleaner.
It can also be a bit too social for its own good at times- it’s hard to get a good night’s sleep if there’s a party going on and it’s not somewhere you’d want to stay if you’re looking for a romantic getaway.
Verdict: A fantastic hostel for party-goers that is so close to Hollywood that you will feel you’re part of the dream- you can see the iconic Hollywood sign from most rooms!

The hostel has its own bar and restaurant which are great places to stock up before a night out LA style while the comfortable lounge area is a welcome place to chill-out and recharge after your night out.
It’s Hollywood Boulevard location is an obvious draw, however it’s that on-site private pool that is the star of the show- who needs the Four Seasons when you can take a dip in your own private pool for less than €80?!

Stay hotel is your up-market budget accommodation option in Los Angeles. You won’t find a rickety bunk in sight here as all rooms feature immaculately turned out beds with comfortable duvets all color coordinated to match the wallpaper and color of the walls.
The result is that you feel like you’re being pampered at Stay Hotel even though you aren’t really getting much more than your average hostel for your money.
However, it is the little things that make all the difference and nice touches are the flat screen TVs in every room, complimentary high-speed wireless internet and the cozy on-sight restaurant which offers your standard breakfast, lunch and dinner options as well as late-night American dining for those of you hungry after a night out on the tiles.
The hostel’s superb downtown location within a couple of minutes of the Los Angeles Convention Center, Little Tokyo and Chinatown is another obvious draw- you’re closer to the thick of it here than any of the celebrities staying at the Hollywood Roosevelt or Hotel Bel-Air!

5. Venice Beach Cotel
Prices start at €19.53 for shared accommodation
Last and by no means least, the Venice Beach Cotel is the cheapest of our suggested places to stay in Los Angeles. However, you would never have guessed it based on the facilities and services it has to offer.
In addition to all the things you’d expect as standard from your hostel like a clean kitchen and a comfortable bed in a tidy dorm, you get loads of little extras like free boogie boards, table tennis, daily maid service and complimentary tea and coffee throughout the day.
The other big draw of the Venice Beach Cotel is its proximity to LA’s beautiful golden beaches. The hostel is actually on Venice Beach Boardwalk, meaning that the beach is no more than a few hundred meters away.
The views at sunset are spectacular and the occasional sea breeze provides welcome respite if you’re in town during the heat of the summer months (although in all honesty it’s always hot in LA unlike the UK!).
Verdict: If you’re after proximity to the beach from you’re LA hostel then this is one of the best budget hostels out there.
