Rio de Janeiro
It’s sure to be one of the most memorable New Year’s Eve’s of your life – the internationally famous New Year’s Eve in Copacabana. This gorgeous stretch of sandy white beach will host firework displays, live shows and performances and over 2 million people dressed all in white, symbolizing a new year of peace and prosperity. Rumour has it that Madonna will be performing this year!
It’s not just Copacabana going fireworks crazy – Barra da Tijuca, Flamengo and Ipanema, Governor’s Island, Paqueta Piscinao Palm and Leblon beaches will all be hosting their own fireworks parties.
The best spot to watch all the action is from the Forte de Copacabana in the middle of Atlantic Avenue. The site is surrounded by the main sights of Rio de Janeiro and you’ll get a privileged view of the fireworks.
Hostels in Rio de Janeiro fill up quickly. My pick of the best left is Lisetonga, just 500m from Copacabana and three blocks from the beach. You’ll be in the heart of the restaurant, bar and club area and HostelBookers customers have given it a 88.6% satisfaction rating. Florianopolis is the top choice if you’re after some beach fun for your New Year’s Eve in Brazil. Almost all of the near 100 beaches on the island will be hosting some sort of party.
The most hyped beach celebrations is the Jurerê stage at Réveillon Taikô . The huge party has some of the best names in national and international electronic music facing the sea and with exclusive access to the beach. Event details are tbc but we’ll update as soon as we know more.

The Banana Beach Hostel in Barra da Lagoa with a views of the sea and the lake. Dorms start from €26.64pppn.
There are several parties on Ocean Avenue, including the Bahia Celebration with DJs, live bands, fireworks, food, open bar (last year’s tickets were under €75). Or, just 50km from Salvador, Praia do Forte remains one of the hits of the Brazilian summer. Spend New Year’s Eve on the paradise beach of Papa Gente listening to the tunes of some of the world’s buggest electronic DJs.

Duda Hostel in the Pelourinho has 6-bed dorms starting from €25.29pppn.
The fireworks on Paulista Avenue are some of the most traditional in the country and every year thousands of people turn up to admire them. The after-hours party always has a varied program of concerts (see video) and themed parties, like the Bar Brahma Aeroclub’s Parisien themed festa.

Vila Madalena Hostel is strategically located between Pinheiros and Vila Madalena and has rooms starting from €15.17pppn.
Buzios is in the Lakes Region of Brazil, also known as the “St Tropez of Brazil.” The New Year’s party at Pacha Buzios in Armação dos Búzios is the pick of the parties. DJ Rick Maia is headlining the party with Italian DJs Luca di Napoli and Mimmo Sorrentino are supporting.
