What’s Happening in September?

Summer is officially over…we know it’s hard, but trust us, there is plenty to look forward to –  the world is buzzing this month with hundreds of exciting events to welcome autumn. We’ve chosen our favourites to help get you through this difficult time…

1. The Canadian Bodypainting Festival

Body Painting

What:  An art exhibition with a mildly erotic twist – human models are transformed by artists in weird and wonderful creations in competition for a grand prize of $5000. The models have barely any clothes on and the artists have to start hours before spectators arrive to avoid being penalised by Canadian indecency laws.

2. Ohara Hadaka Matsuri (Naked Festival)

Ohara Haduka Matsuri

What: Expect naked men and wrestling. Celebrations involve several naked (and some loin-cloth clad) men holding portable shrines and jostling with each other in the sea at Kaisuiyokujo Beach. Shrines are paraded through the streets at 5.30pm.

Where:  Ohara Shrine, Chiba, Japan

3. Ibiza Club Closing Parties

Amnesia

What: The Godfather of all clubbing marathons – Ibiza bids farewell to the summer with over a month of closing down parties starting in September. Some closing parties have been known to last for up to four days…

Where: Ibiza, Spain

4. Dublin Festival Season

5. Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest

What: Live music, food, a funfair and more beer than you could ever hope to drink, Oktoberfest 2013 promises to be better than ever.

Where: Munich, Germany

6. Fashion Weeks – New York, London, Paris, Milan

Fashion week

What: The fashion industry kicks off the new season this September in the fashion capitals of the world.

Where: New York, London, Paris, Milan

When: NEW YORK : September 5th – 12th, LONDON: September 13th  – 17th, MILAN: September 18th – 23rd, PARIS: September 24th – October 2nd

7. Longs Peak Highland Festival

Longs Highland Festival

What: Scottish and Irish jousters in full armour, combat on horseback and some of the most well-known Scottish and Irish folk-music bands in the world.  Festivities climax on Saturday night with a parade through the town.

8. The Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival

Rio Film Festival

What: Held at the Rio Cinema and the Cima Centre for Culture, the Rio International Film festival is the largest of its kind in Latin America. It has attracted some huge names in the past including Samuel L. Jackson, Kylie Minogue and Forest Whitaker.

Where: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

When: September 26th- 10th October 2013

9. Melbourne Fringe Festival

Particle Man

What: With over 100 different shows held at independent venues across the city, the Melbourne Fringe is the perfect opportunity to explore the latest up and coming artistic talent in Australia.

Where: Victoria, Melbourne, Australia

When: September 18th  – 6th OCtober 2013

10. La Merce

Giants Parade Barcelona

What: Barcelona’s biggest street party  – over five days the city hosts hundreds of events including a fire run, human towers and a giants’ parade. The festival marks the end of summer.

Where: Barcelona, Spain

When: September 20th – 24th 2013
