Zaragoza festival in Spain

Zaragoza festival in Spain

Backpackers in Spain can head for Zaragoza to experience a unique festival that will occur on 5th March 2009.

Tio Jorge Park is the location of the annual event, which celebrates the defeat of Carlist troops by the local people in 1838.

The strategically located city, which is situated by the River Ebro, was the scene of a courageous battle by residents to keep out forces led by Juan Cabanero.

In the years following the victory, locals would commemorate it by venturing to the Macanaz wooded grove and the banks of the river Gallego to feast, drink and be merry.
It is now held in the park and is characterized by music, dancing, street entertainers and much eating and drinking.

Travelers attending the festival can also take advantage of the hostel facilities in the region and visit other Zaragoza attractions.

These include the Cathedral of San Salvador dating from the 11th century and the Ajaferia palace, which dates from the time of the Moors.
