United Airlines to operate cashless policy on flashpacking flights

Hostel-staying backpackers may be interested in the latest announcement by United Airlines that some of their flights will operate a cashless policy.

From 2nd September 2009 the airline is set to only accept credit and debit card transactions on its Transatlantic routes as well as those heading into Brazil and Argentina.

The reason for the move away from cash payments is to speed up service and improve efficiency.

An increasing need to supply travelers with receipts for items purchased while on-board has also brought about the introduction of the cashless system.

Lynda Coffman, managing director of onboard design and strategy, commented: "Customers appreciate the simplicity and the speed with which cashless transactions can be done onboard."

United Airlines transports travelers to 73 domestic destinations and 41 international destinations covering 25 countries including Asia, Americas, Europe and Oceania.
