Travelers set their sights on London for May Day bank holiday
A survey by a low cost online flight service has found that London is the top destination for hostel-staying travelers this May Day bank holiday weekend.
London was the most searched-for destination, displacing Amsterdam, the most popular city of last year, with Malaga and the Dutch capital coming second and third respectively.
Gareth Williams, chief executive at Skyscanner, commented: "The massive rise in the number of people searching for flights to London this year shows that more people are staying in the UK this May Day holiday, likely because of the weak pound."
He added that the eurozone is still a popular destination despite changes in currency value.
Berlin features in the top ten for the first time, reflecting the city's recent resurgence as the capital of cool, enjoying a reputation of being at the forefront of arts and culture.
A report in the Guardian earlier this month revealed that Thierry Noir, a Frenchman who braved the authorities to become the first artist to paint the Berlin wall in 1984, has been invited to paint the wall again.
