Travelers get money-saving tips for ski accommodation
The tourist board of the Tirol region in Austria has given holidaymakers some advice on how to enjoy a skiing holiday without breaking the bank this winter.
According to the organisation, choosing ski accommodation carefully can help travellers to make major savings without detracting from the quality of their time on the slopes.
It recommends selecting lesser-known areas over the popular resorts and staying in a hostel, B&B or small pension instead of an expensive chalet.
Other budget-friendly tips provided by the Tirol tourist board include opting for a short break over a week-long stay and avoiding pricey apres-ski activities by "building a snowman, sledging or having a snowball fight".
Last month, the Telegraph reported that the average cost of hotel-based skiing holidays has risen by almost 50 per cent in some European resorts.
The newspaper also revealed that the number of ski holidays taken by British people dropped by 13 per cent last season due to the economic downturn, airline surcharges and the poor exchange rate.
