Travelers choosing rail
Travelers are increasingly opting to move about by rail instead of flying with budget airlines, a European train company has claimed.
Put off by the extra costs that low-budget airlines are adding on, such as fees for the use of on-flight bathroom facilities, consumers are finding rail travel is often more attractive, according to Rail Online.
Rail travel seems to be in vogue, with research published by Passenger Focus this year revealing that just under half of train users believe the service is value for money.
Trains now offer great deals for those booking in advance and night services are also available to a range of different locations, often enabling backpackers to alight close to their hostels.
Amanda Monroe, spokesperson for Rail Europe, commented: "People are more and more getting fed up with low cost airlines, especially when they are charging you to go to the toilet - things like that turn people off from flying and it gives them a reason to start looking for alternatives."
She added that concern for the environment was also prompting backpackers to opt for rail travel rather than take to the skies and reduce their carbon footprint as a result.
