Ryanair announces 'easyJet rescue fares' on backpacking flights
Backpackers whose travel plans have been derailed by easyJet's decision to withdraw services from East Midlands Airport may be interested to learn that Ryanair has launched a series of special "rescue fares".
For £35 one way including taxes and charges, those affected by route cancellations can fly from East Midlands Airport to Alicante, Barcelona, Faro and Malaga from January 2010.
Travelers have until September 15th to avail of the offer and backpackers must quote their easyJet booking reference when arranging their flight and checking in.
Ryanair spokesman Stephen McNamara said the airline will ensure that any affected passengers are accommodated.
It was announced earlier this week that easyJet is to cease operating at East Midlands Airport.
In addition, the budget airline said that it plans to reduce the number of flights it offers from Luton Airport by around 20 per cent, with costs at the hub having increased over the last three years.
