Rio Carnival kicks off tomorrow
The Rio Carnival is set to get underway tomorrow (21st February 2009) and will continue to bring fun and festivities to the streets of the city of Rio until Fat Tuesday, which takes place on 24th February 2009.
Open-air processions will take place throughout the three-day extravaganza, with the biggest crowds gathering outside the Sambadrome for the unforgettable free Samba parades.
Travelers can go along to grand-stand areas to sneak a peek of the rehearsals for the ticketed parades as these are often as spectacular as the real thing.
There are also many stalls selling cheap carnival food and drink to ensure individuals have enough sustenance to get them through the 72 hours of partying.
Carnival street bands will be making lots of noise as they accompany processions of elaborately-dressed dancers and revelers making merry.
Less formal and spontaneous street parties are set to take place across the city and backpackers can soak in the atmosphere and dance the night away with locals.
Travelers who are not already in Rio should ensure they have booked their hostels as the internationally acclaimed event attracts thousands of travelers and accommodation can become scarce.
