Punctuality of student travel flights improves

The punctuality of UK flights improved during the second quarter of 2009, it has been revealed.

Those planning gap year breaks may be interested to learn that, according to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), 81 per cent of flights left within 15 minutes of their scheduled departure time.

The CAA monitored activity at ten airports in total.

Heathrow Airport and London City Airport saw the most impressive year-on-year rise in punctuality.

"Heathrow's scheduled on-time performance increased by 14 percentage points in the second quarter of 2009 compared with the second quarter of 2008 and the average delay reduced by eight minutes from 18 minutes to ten minutes," the organisation noted.

Meanwhile, the CAA revealed recently that the number of people traveling through UK airports fell last year.

Around four million fewer passengers traveled between October and December 2008, compared to the same period of 2007.
