Oktoberfest still going strong in Munich
People planning to visit Munich for the German city's famous Oktoberfest have until 4th October 2009 to get in on the action.
For those looking for a reason to book hostels in Munich, the historic Bavarian beer festival may just provide the perfect excuse.
Over six million people from around the world are expected to join the party over the 16 days of the festival, which got underway on 19th September 2009 and is now just one year way from its 200th anniversary.
As well as the beer - 6.6 million one-litre mugs were consumed at last year's Oktoberfest - visitors can tuck into a variety of German food and Bavarian specialities.
However, not everyone is permitted to enjoy the festivities, as the recent case of German footballer Jens Lehmann revealed.
The former Arsenal goalkeeper was dropped by his new club Stuttgart after paying an authorised visit to Oktoberfest, just hours after his team were beaten 2-0 by Cologne in a league match.
