New flights 'will restimulate interest in Fes'

People considering backpacking in Morocco may be tempted by Fes, thanks to new direct flights, an expert on the country has suggested.
From next year, Gatwick Airport will provide new bi-weekly services to the city - thus bringing it out of the shadow of Marrakech, Jane Folliott from Orion Trek Voyages said.
Ms Folliott, Morocco specialist and commercial director at the company, explained holidaymakers should expect to "glimpse the changing history" of the country, from Arab and Islamic influences, Jewish history and French colonialism to modern developments.
She added there is so much to see in the ancient walled medina of Fes el Bali - from traditional craftsmen and markets to mosques and palatial homes - that it is said there are residents who have never ventured outside the walls.
"Hopefully direct flights to Fes will help restimulate interest in this city and the surrounding areas of this region more," Ms Folliott stated.
DK Eyewitness Travel recently named Fes as one of the top ten cities to visit in 2009.
