New backpacking routes launched by bmibaby

Low-cost airline bmibaby has announced plans to launch eight additional routes from East Midlands Airport.

New destinations being served include Barcelona, Dubrovnik, Cork, Malta, Newquay and Venice - news that may be of interest to those booking backpacking flights in the future.

Frequencies will also be increased on several key summer and winter routes, including Geneva and Prague.

Overall, the airline's capacity from East Midlands Airport will increase by 40 percent.

Commenting on the announcement, Crawford Rix, managing director of bmibaby, said: "We are confident that the services will prove extremely popular and we will make sure that everyone who wants to fly can, whether it's for a sunshine holiday, a city break or for an important business trip."

It was revealed earlier this week that the carrier will begin operating flights between Manchester and Lourdes from summer 2010.
