London Olympics to inspire travelers
Travelers are expected to arrive in London in their droves to soak up the electric atmosphere of the London 2012 Olympics.
This is the view of Lord Sebastian Coe, speaking at a convention in Manchester, who described the 2012 Olympic Games in London as the dawning of a golden era that travelers to the city can enjoy.
After the Sydney Olympics in 2000, the Australian government reported a significant upturn in the number of travelers to the country and the UK expects a similar experience, so backpackers would be advised to book their hostels in advance.
Lord Coe explained: "We at the London organizing committee have a working title for that, the golden decade, because we go from 2012 an Olympic Games to 2014 a Commonwealth Games."
He added that England is also more than hopeful it will win the opportunity to host the 2018 World Cup tournament, adding to the UK's appeal for travelers.
The Australian Tourist Commission reported that between 1997 and 2004 almost two million travelers stopped off in Australia, many having been inspired by the Olympics.
