Iceland 'is a compact destination ideal for backpacking'

Travelers planning to take a backpacking trip around Europe this autum may wish to consider adding Iceland to their itinerary.

Speaking recently, Ray Steward, marketing manager at iceland2go, suggested the country is a compact destination and easy to get around.

"The great thing about Iceland is that you are not going to a country where you can only fit in some of the sights, if you are going for a week you can fit in virtually see everything you want to see," he explained.

Mr Steward added that there is a ring road that practically encircles the entire country, which can be traveled around within ten days.

Furthermore, he described it as the perfect place for travelers who really enjoy exploring a destination, rather than those who like to relax on the beach.

Figures published by the Icelandic Tourist Board earlier this year revealed that 1.2 per cent more people visited the country in July of this year compared to the same period in 2008.
