Head to eastern Europe 'for great value'

Travelers planning to take a cheap backpacking trip this winter have been advised to head to eastern Europe.

Research carried out by the Post Office revealed that destinations such as Budapest and the Czech Republic offer excellent value for money.

Warsaw and Krakow are also recommended for those on a tight budget, with the pound now buying around six per cent more Polish zloty than it did a year ago.

Post Office head of travel services Sarah Munro said travellers should always do their homework and find out where their pound will stretch the furthest.

"European currencies … have remained weak and this means that Christmas shoppers can get the most for their money in cities like Prague, Warsaw and Budapest at their advent markets and in the shops," she added.

Meanwhile, those looking to save money on the cost of flights may be interested to learn that Ryanair has launched a new seat sale, with offers running until November 13th.
