'Frozen Dead Guy Days' this weekend

Frozen Dead Guy Days this weekend

Backpackers looking to veer off the beaten track with their travel adventures in the US may wish to attend a unique if somewhat macabre annual festival.

Frozen Dead Guy Days is set to take place in Nederland, Colorado on 6th March 2009 until 8th March 2009.

The quirky festival celebrates the story of Bredo Morstoel, cryogenically suspended and kept in a shed behind the former home of his daughter since 1989.

Brought over to the US from Norway by his grandson Trygve Bauge and daughter Aud Bauge, the town has rallied to keep the experiment alive with local authorities passing legislation and a local environmental company supplying dry ice to preserve the body.

Travelers can make their way to Nederland and stay in local hostels and witness an array of events focused on the more light-hearted aspects of the saga.

Coffin races, a tour of the shed in which Mr Morstoel is stored, a polar plunge and a Grandpa's Blue Ball are among the festival highlights.

Live music will be played at the launch party on Friday and throughout the weekend there will be art stalls and vendors selling blue ice cream.
