Europe can still offer great value for travelers from the UK
British travelers can still enjoy a trip to Europe without breaking the bank by opting for low-budget options such as staying in hostels, it has been suggested.
A trip to France and Spain can still offer value for money, the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) claims, as long as backpackers choose self-catering instead of hotels and minimise their costs in that way.
According to the Post Office Holiday Costs Barometer, France is the most expensive destination in the eurozone, typically costing 16 per cent more than Spain.
A spokesperson for the organisation commented: "Lots of people have started to go self-catering. You can offset your cost ... if you want to go to France or Spain."
He added that other destinations in Europe that are slightly off the beaten track, such as Croatia, offer great value for money as they are not as developed.
Turkey, Bulgaria and Croatia are among the cheapest locations across the continent and offer a wealth of sights and attractions at great prices.
