Egypt and Turkey 'top holiday destinations' for 2009

Egypt and Turkey 'top holiday destinations' for 2009Turkey and Egypt have been named as among the top holiday destinations for Brits heading overseas this year by a travel report.

Abta – The Travel Association's Travel Trends Report found the two countries are likely to be "big growth areas" outside the euro zone, according to the organisation's spokesperson Frances Tuke.

She explained this was because of "good value and high standards" and the fact that people are not expected to cut back on trips away despite the economic slowdown.

While there are still bargains around for people backpacking in Turkey, there has been "a lot of new investment" into five-star accommodation, Ms Tuke suggested.

She went on to identify Spain as the "number one" destination for travelers this year, particularly as the country marks the anniversary of its civil war.

According to the ABTA - The Travel Association and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Travel Trends report, published in December, one in five British people are planning to snap up a last-minute bargain this summer.
