Dalai Lama to receive honorary citizenship of Rome
Travelers in Rome may be able to catch a glimpse of the Dalai Lama when he arrives in the city on Sunday (8th February).
His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the leader of the Tibetan people and since 1959 has been living in exile in Dharamsala in India.
Rome is the destination of his first trip abroad this year and backpackers may wish to emerge from their hostels and join the crowds waiting to greet him.
He is in the Italian capital to be named an honorary citizen by Rome city council in recognition of "his international efforts to find a peaceful solution for Tibet and for having affirmed the principles of human rights and peaceful conflict-resolution between nations".
The Dalai Lama will then go on to Venice and Baden Baden, where he will be presented with the German Media Prize by Media Control.
