Civil War comes to life for those backpacking in New York
History enthusiasts in New York may wish to venture along to the Senate House State Historic Site to witness the re-enactment of life during the Civil War.
The horror and drama of the four-year war in the 1800s, which was partly fought, over the use of slaves, is laid bare.
Travelers can make their way from their hostels to the free event, which is to be found on Fair Street in Kingston, with proceedings kicking off at 11:00 (local time) on 8th August 2009.
Members of the 150th New York State Volunteer Infantry Regiment will be on-hand to carry out demonstrations and answer questions.
The Civil war period will be brought to life with dances courtesy of the 77th Regimental Balladeers and live music, all designed to capture the mood of this pivotal phase in US history.
Sessions on quilt-making and design are also set to take place while there are many activities to keep youngsters amused.
These include taking part in wooden musket drills and enjoying craft lessons.
