Christmas 'is the ideal time to visit New York'

Travelers planning to take a backpacking trip around the US have been advised that Christmas is the ideal time to head to New York.

Anna Catchpole, PR manager for NYC & Company, said the festive season is a "magical time" in the city.

"You can't beat the atmosphere, the lights and the window displays so it is always a popular time for Brits to visit. This year we are expecting just as many Brits as ever before to come to New York for Christmas shopping," she commented.

She noted that although the exchange rate between the pound and dollar is weaker than it was, travelers can still get good value for money.

According to figures published by the Post Office earlier this week, people can save around 25 per cent by purchasing their Christmas gifts in New York rather than in London.

The organisation revealed that an Abercrombie and Fitch shirt costing £70 in London came in at just £23 in Manhattan.
